Verified Iowa Preconditioned

For Feedlots

     Verified Iowa Preconditioned or V.I.P. is a combination of the Iowa Cattleman's Gold or Green Tag preconditioning programs, and a Process Verified Program that verifies age and source for export to Japan. Only cattle in a Process Verified Program/(P.V.P.) or QSA can qualify for shipment into the Japanese market.

     P.V.P cattle producers currently are receiving an ave. of $25.00-30.00 per head from the Meat Packers offering premiums for age and source verification . V.I.P. calves will qualify for any premiums being offered at harvest time. The calves need to be enrolled in a P.V.P. or Q.S.A. prior to moving from the ownership of the original producer (the person that owns the cow!) to qualify for age and source verification, and in most cases the feedlots need to be enrolled in a P.V.P. in order to be listed on the Approved Feedlot Providers list prior to sending cattle to the harvest facilities.

• The data base we supply data to is privately held by AgInfoLink.

• Only Spencer Livestock and the producers that purchase V.I.P cattle know where those cattle are being fed. That info is private and not shared with any other agency/company/or entity.

• You do not have to change your feedlot operation, how you feed or how you pen the cattle to qualify. Basic record keeping and verifying the V.IP. cattle prior to shipment is all that is required.

• What does it cost? Just what you pay for the calves purchased at Spencer Livestock. We will work with any feedlot that purchases V.I.P.calves at SLS to get them enrolled. No audit fees, no enrollment fees, just the cost of the calves purchased at Spencer livestock Sales.

• Who offers the premiums? With the help of ISU Beef Center we identified 7 harvest facilities that have programs that can offer premiums. Currently Creekstone and Tyson are the most aggressive in the premiums being offered at this time.
